OUR VISION

Our vision for DBC is also the basis of our membership covenant.

In the power of the Holy Spirit we seek to be a people who wholeheartedly...

1. LOVE GOD

Our deepest desire is that we reflect the words of Jesus and fulfill the Greatest Commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Our love for God is rooted in a love for all three persons of the Trinity; the Father who created us, the Son who saved us and the Holy Spirit who empowers us. We love God for who He is and because He first loved us and transformed us by His grace. This is a life that (in the Spirit's power) enjoys God and puts Him first in all things; in every action, situation and relationship.

Key Verses: Mark 12:30; 1 John 4:19-21; Psalm 42:1-2; John 14:15-17; 1 Peter 1:8.

2. LOVE ONE ANOTHER

As we seek to be a people who love God we know that this directly relates to our loving one another. We desire to reflect Jesus' words as He calls us to love our neighbour as ourselves. This is most powerfully demonstrated in our actions and includes loving those we may regard as difficult or even our enemies. We are to love everybody, whoever they are and however they regard us (whether as friend or foe). One of the most powerful ways that we can demonstrate this love is through our generosity. We do so constantly aware of the way Christ displays His generous love towards us.

Key Verses: Mark 12:31; Matthew 5:44-48; 1 Peter 4:8; 1 John 4:19-21; Romans 12:10.

3. LOVE THE GOSPEL

The reality of the Gospel is the reality of Jesus Christ; His life on earth, His death on the cross, His burial and resurrection from the dead. Jesus does all of this because of grace; He loves us and He desires that we would be saved from our sin and its effects and restored back into a right relationship with God. The truth of the Gospel is the power of God at work in our lives; a repenting of our sin and a turning to Him in faith. We wholeheartedly believe that this Gospel is transformative in its nature and impacting in all of life, we seek to be a people who live by this truth every day.

Key Verses: John 3:16; Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-11; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 4:9-10.

4. LOVE THE BIBLE

We understand the Gospel as we dig into the Bible and recognise the essential resource that it is for our lives. We love the Bible, convinced that it is God's inerrant and infallible Word for each one of us. We believe the Bible is alive today and God by His Spirit through His Word speaks into our lives, shaping us into the people that we were created to be. Our desire is that we would always be a people who seek to evidence the truth of God's Word in each of our lives.

Key Verses: 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 John 2:14; Psalm 33:4; 119:105; Isaiah 40:8.

5. LOVE THE CHURCH

We are most faithful and fruitful in our lives when we are together as the Church. The Church is not a building, it is the gathering of God's people, made up of many parts and a powerful picture of Christ to the world. We have the clearest vision of the Church when we look at Scripture and see the devotion the earliest believers had to one another. They were a people passionately committed to believer's baptism, teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, giving, holiness, justice, service and unity all within the context of regularly gathering together in both smaller and larger meetings - this is who we want to be! Through our example we believe the church exists for the blessing and benefit of all peoples and all communities.

Key Verses: Hebrews 10:24-25; Ephesians 2:11-22; 1 Corinthians 12; Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-37.

6. LOVE THE MISSION

We are the church as we gather and scatter and our mandate is to go and make disciples by making the Gospel known in every nation. We have a heart to be a disciple making people; disciples who make disciples, who go on to make more disciples, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.. The vehicle that God uses to achieve this mission is through the local church and we have a vision to be a gathering of God's people that plant new churches within our city, nation and world. All of this is only ever possible as we are reliant on God the Holy Spirit in our lives. We look forward to all that God has planned for us as we step forward in faith and into the mission that He calls us to.

Key Verses: Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:1-15; Psalm 96:1-4; Isaiah 52:7.

7. LOVE THE FUTURE

We live life in the knowledge that if we have a loving relationship with Jesus then our future is secure. We are deeply encouraged by the truth that this life is not the end, God has prepared a place for us in eternity; a new heaven and a new earth. The future is such that we will be free from pain, suffering, and death in the life to come, all through Jesus' finished cross and resurrection work for us. We love the future because we will be with Jesus, enjoying Him forever to the glory of His Name. We are excited about the future and it compels us to be the people He calls us to be in the present.

Key Verses: Revelation 21-22; John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 2:9; 15:35-58; 1 Peter 1:4.
